Midterms

Oh Midterms,
I have learned to love you so....you've reduced my weekend to only studying.

Kaitlin and I made this....out of gummis
With your staying up all night, eating junk food and candy, taking crazy exercise breaks with roomies, and memorizing countless facts that I will forget immediately after taking your tests.  At least I get to study some interesting information this time around.  I love learning about the young Michelangelo, he was a little brooding rebel teen.  Maybe a little depressed, a little misunderstood.  Just trying to make a quick buck. He was a crafty one. Today to make extra money, kids like myself, sell stuff on Ebay.  Young Michelangelo, however,  created an a sleeping Eros sculpture (think baby cupid statue), covered it with dirt, and sold it as an antique to make a quick buck.  Those crazy Renaissance Florentines believed it was a genuine Roman sculpture and he got 200 ducats for it. A lot of money.  Too bad he was defrauded later on...   Smarty Mikey, smart.  Young Michelangelo also wanted to portray himself as more masculine, work with the stone masons, so he switched from painting to sculpting.  Maybe the equivalent from playing tennis to playing football?  He wanted to be where all the macho artists were. No wonder they named a ninja turtle after him, he was that amazing.... just trying to be a jock in the high school world of Renaissance art.

I did take a break from all my studying yesterday to go to the movies with my roommates.  And wow, that was an experience.  I've never been to such a cool movie theater! It used to be a palace! There were balcony seats, carvings, and the schmanciest bathrooms. We saw The Town.  It was an interesting story.  I also love me some Ben Affleck. He's easy to look at. The movie takes place in Boston, my favorite historical U.S. city. My dad's and my favorite movie is National Treasure.  It's cheesy and full of history but we've both seen it a hundred times, and I still watch it with him every time we find it on T.V. together.  Love you dad! If I were to move to the East Coast I would move to the outskirts of Boston.... preferably Hingham or Plymoth, and of course I would have my summer house in Chatham.  Shout out to Maggie, my USD roommate from Cape Cod.  Her sister lived in Hingham and I went with Maggs to visit her last summer after our 9 day cross country road trip.  Now that was an experience.  We will save that story for another time.

Look at the cool Odeon movie theater!  My ticket was only 6 euro, for night time.  Bargain.  They did not have overpriced popcorn and economy sized sodas, but they did have expensive bags of chips and a bar. I guess it is better that way because you won't eat a 1,500 calorie bucket of popcorn without realizing it?  As for snacks,  I decided not.  Working at the movies this summer, now it just feels wrong to watch a movie without popcorn.  Wish I still got free tickets and perks!

Now back to studying.... Did you know Michelangelo only took four years to paint the Sistine Ceiling?  1508-1512.  Four years, and we are still marveling at it 500 years later.  Way to go Mikey, way to go.  You were underpaid your whole life.
